How do I reset my password?▾
Tap "Forgot password" on the sign-in screen. A reset link goes to your email. Didn't get it? Check spam, or message Scout below.
Can I change my username?▾
Yes — Settings → Edit Profile → Username. No cooldown.
How do I delete my account?▾
Settings → Delete Account. Your profile is hidden immediately and permanently removed after 30 days. You can cancel the deletion any time during that window by signing back in.
What is a Trusted Account?▾
Trusted Account is granted automatically when you reach Copper tier (200 merit). It unlocks the ability to edit other users' waypoint descriptions and dispute tags.

How does Convoy work?▾
Post a planned route — your origin, destination, and an optional departure date. Other travelers headed the same direction can see your convoy and request to join. You approve who joins.
What is the Friends map layer?▾
When you and a crew member both have Crew Location Sharing enabled (Settings → Privacy), you can see each other's last GPS ping on the map. It's off by default — both people have to opt in.
What's the difference between a Travel Party and a Gathering?▾
Travel Party is an ongoing group coordination thread for a trip or route. A Gathering is a one-time meetup event (campfire night, meet-and-greet). Both have group chat included.
Are safety features free?▾
Yes. SOS, the deadman switch, beacons, trusted contacts, and the mutual aid mesh are always free — no Nomad Pass required.
How does the deadman switch work?▾
You set a check-in cadence. If you miss a check-in, Nomadic sends an alert to your crew with your last known location. It's a server-side cron — it doesn't track your location in the background.
What are offline maps?▾
Download map tiles and waypoints for any region before you lose signal. Refresh when you next have a connection — offline data reflects the world as of your last download.
What is Scout?▾
Scout is the AI assistant built into Nomadic. It generates place-context readings (About where you are), waypoint name suggestions, and answers questions in this chat. It uses Anthropic's Claude. Scout can be wrong — always cross-check critical information.

What is Nomad Pass?▾
Nomad Pass is an optional subscription that unlocks creation tools — unlimited routes, advanced Field Tools, pro features. Core safety and social features are free.
How do I unlock a free Nomad Pass?▾
Two paths. Contribute and hold Iron status (750 active merit) or Obsidian (2,500) and your Pass stays free for as long as you keep showing up. Or, during founder season, bring 10 travelers in for a 24-month Founder Pass — hold Obsidian on your own merit through that window and the Pass stays free, forever.
My Pass isn't showing up.▾
Force-quit the app and reopen. Settings → About → Restore Purchases also works. If it still doesn't appear, message Scout below and we'll sort it out.
Can I get a refund?▾
Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google — refund requests go through the App Store or Play Store. For extenuating circumstances, message us below.
MERIT & STATUS
How do I earn merit?▾
Add accurate waypoints, respond to beacons, help stranded travelers, host verified gatherings, and receive appreciation from the community. There are daily caps to keep things honest.
What are the status tiers?▾
Flint (starting) → Slate (50 active merit) → Copper (200, grants Trusted Account) → Iron (750, free Pass while held) → Obsidian (2,500, top of the ladder). Tiers are two-way: merit decays gently over 90 days, so holding a tier means continuing to contribute. We warn you 5 days before your Pass would pause and give you a 25-day grace window after that.
Can my merit be reset?▾
Only for deliberate abuse of the merit system (coordinated vouching, fake waypoints, etc.). Honest contributions — even imperfect ones — don't get penalized.
TROUBLESHOOTING
I'm not getting push notifications.▾
Check Settings → Notifications inside the app. Then check your device's OS notification settings for Nomadic. Force-quit and reopen — the app re-registers its push token on launch.
Photos won't upload.▾
Most common cause: spotty signal. Photos queue and retry automatically when service returns. If they're stuck for more than 24 hours, message Scout below.
I sent an SOS by mistake.▾
Open the Active Alert screen and tap Acknowledge → Mark false alarm. Your crew will see the resolution. Message us so we know — helps us tune sensitivity.
Someone is harassing me.▾
Tap the user → Report → choose a reason. Block from the same menu. Also use the Report button on any message, gathering, or convoy they created.
